About Us
Erik D. Spykman, Attorney and Founding Member
Rick Spykman provides counsel and advice at the intersection of legal, business and family matters. Trusted by affluent individuals, families and business owners, he listens and then provides sound counsel to help clients move forward with confidence.
The quality of Rick’s guidance stems from deep experience in real estate, business transactions, corporate formation and counsel, and estate/trust planning, that helps him to anticipate and resolve the issues that often arise for individuals, families, and businesses.
Rick is a graduate of Calvin University and the University of Notre Dame Law School. He is rated AV “Preeminent” and endorsed for “High Ethical Standing” by Martindale-Hubbell, a leading peer review survey, and is licensed to practice law in Indiana and Michigan.
Rick has a long history of leadership and service with church, educational, professional and community organizations. He serves as a member of the Board of Directors and the Investment Committee of Barnabas Foundation, a $1 billion Christian philanthropic organization.
Rick enjoys long-distance boating, active outdoor activities, reading, and traveling with family and friends.
Brenda S. Thomas, Paralegal/Trust Administrator
Brenda Thomas is a paralegal and trust administrator. Brenda has over forty years of experience working in estate and trust services and operations and plays a lead role in providing exceptional services to Macatawa Law clients.
Brenda works closely with clients to process income and expense transactions and trust distributions; pay bills; collect and transfer assets; maintain accounting records; manage projects, properties and assets; and coordinate with other professional services team members.
Brenda enjoys building relationships with clients and their families and helping them implement long term plans.
